The parking area is close to where the climb begins. The view looking back as you climb the hill. Thistles. Wukd rasoberrues, Berries along the way were tart and delicious. It's easy to trip over rocks and roots on the path. Nearing the top of the mountain. A great place to take a break and enjoy the view. Boulders at the top of the mountain. A bulder on the mountaintop. Incredible flowers. Hard not to spend time enjoying these flowers framing the view. What a wonderful contrast these are to the yellow flowers. Continuing on from the top leads to more trails. Trails are well marked and maintained, but be sure to have a map. Paths at the top are narrower and more winding than those below. The sun intermittently breaks through the canopy. Sunlight paints the rocks with shadows. An unusual fungus attached to a tree trunk. A hiker running on the trail. Back out to a meadow. A break with freinds before descending the mountain. My friend Barbara declares this her favorite tree. A farmhouse in the distance. The incredible downward journey. The incredible valley view and beyond.
People stream off the subway before the parade. The parade passes Dupont Circle, so it's a great place to wait. Wardrobe choices are always part of the fun on Gay Pride Day. More wild costumes. The parade marches up P Street. The parade marches up P Street. A man on a float tosses out beads. Spectators try to catch trinkets thrown from the floats. D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. A big bird on one of the floats. A fun costume to wear on a swealtering day. A man on a balcony fires back at soaker gunners. Soaker gunners aim for a balcony. Catching trinkets thrown up to a balcony. Pride always showcase multiple musician's groups. A player in one of the bands. Band members march in unison. One of the many bands. Where there are musicians and music, there are also dancers. Pretty in pink. I can't imagine being under all this and in the sun for four hours or more. Encountering friends. Conga time? Being shirtless probably made the heat more tolerable. Being shirtless and in briefs probably made the heat even more tolerable. Girlfriend! Girlfriend! It was a sweltering day and the parade went on for hours. A group on 23rd Street feeding into the parade route. Many celbrate Pride by seeking to raise awareness of important issues. Man in pink. Members of a group of classical musicians. Staying cool. Another group on a balcony. Being entertained while getting a "do". Preening and checking the 'do". That's all, folks!
